In the third trimester, we will be teaching our students how to conduct research and present their findings in an organized essay. We will be using Google Classroom to assign the included hyperdoc and graphic organizer found in the link below. Students will conduct research online, practicing safe searches and checking for credibility. After teaching them how to cite sources, embed quotes, and provide commentary, students will begin their outlines. Once they have completed rough drafts, we will then use Canvas to assign peer editors and go through an extensive revision process. If time allows, students will be presenting their findings to the class in a multimedia presentation. This is an ambitious project, but I know it will be beneficial to our students. In sixth grade, we are also working on embedding technology use into our science curriculum as well. With the move NGSS, our science department has been a bit of disarray, but we are really trying to hit a few units very hard. For Body Systems, our students will be designing a book targeted for a 3rd - 5th grade audience. I look forward to writing my reflection once we get to this project in the spring!
